Baptism of Jesus

The gospel as good news is a message for everyone. From the very beginning of the Christian faith, the apostles and other followers of Christ went everywhere preaching this message.By definition, a gospel is a document whose source is faith – the Christian faith – written for the promotion of faith. Each writer collected and arranged his material to preach the message of the Christian church: that Jesus of Nazareth is God’s promised Savior and the Lord of all, which is confirmed by those who have accepted Him. Each writer emphasized different aspects of His teaching, so each Gospel is different, even though they share much of the same substance and ideas. *The information is taken from the introductions of books of the Bible printed by the Latvian Bible Society in 2012

Baptism of Jesus

A combination of gospels of Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22, and John 1:29-34.

Jesus went from Nazareth of Galilee to the Jordan to John to become baptized by him. When all the people had been baptized, John saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, after me comes a man who is before me, for he was before me.” And I did not know Him, but therefore I came baptizing in water, that He might be revealed to Israel.” When Jesus came to the Jordan River, John tried to stop Him from being baptized, saying: “I need to be baptized by You, and You come to me?” But Jesus answered him: “It must be so, because it is our duty to fulfill everything according to righteousness.” And John baptized Him in the Jordan. After the baptism, Jesus, praying to God, came out of the water and immediately the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit of God descended on Jesus like a dove. A voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And John testified: “I saw the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and remaining on Him. I did not know Him, but the one who sent me to baptize in water said to me: on whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining is the one who baptizes in the Holy Spirit. I have seen and testify that this is the Son of God.”
